Unless you are from Michigan
you may not know that there is a Holland here.
It was settled by the Dutch immigrants.
Their tulip festival will rival any from the Netherlands.
Just a sketch.

That is what this boy is communicating to this horse.
I love the gentleness that is appartent in the boy's touch
and the gentle response of the powerful horse.

They are the trophies of autumn.
But these kids (my kids) are the best treasure of any season.
I tried to keep the majority of the shadows touching each other for congruity. Sometimes I used a cool tone for the shadows but sometimes the darker more intense value as in her hat.
This picture was taked outside of the cottage we rent on Lake Michigan
not at an apple orchard,
But we favor
The Country Mill and Orchard in Potterville.

The almost finished portrait of the Morans.
I have changed it since the scan to adjust the husband's jaw and the littlest girls left eye.
I love it. The colors are as vibrant as the family.
Everything in their house hase color.
Their car is even decorated for the seasons.
That is the moto of this fam!

In Michigan fall means
This summer was hot. We like hot here. Firstly, we only have three true months of summer and
Secondly, one of the best things about Michigan is the water.
Lake Michigan is great with heat and waves.
It is not a place you go to be seen
like California beaches.
You go to be
or with family.

The inviting faces of the
West boys portrait
were juried as third best in show!
Never done that before.
The community of Clio has been hit hard by the recession.
Our state has 13.5% unemployed.
I'm glad the Wests
could make the town smile!!
They make me smile!

and there would be kind reception.
There was kind reception
but if you are planning on visiting a gallery to show your work
schedule an appointment...
graciously looked and my work
and sent me back
We'll see . .
